Focus on the Founders
The SCONT Focus on the Founders Event is held annually in the fall to give the youth an opportunity to learn more about our country’s Founding Fathers while showing off their public speaking skills before a large audience. SCONT youth prepare a 2 minute speech, which is judged by a panel of judges. The top 3 speeches receive recognition awards.

Freedom Bowl
Freedom Bowl is a Constitution and Founding Era competition held in the spring. SCONT youth create teams of three members and study to learn as much as they can about these subjects before the actual competition. The day of the event, teams are placed in head to head action against each other to see which team truly knows their material. Participants and spectators really gain an appreciation for being an American!
Opening Social
Before the official SCONT session begins, the SCONT members gather together to enjoy old and new friendships at the Opening Social. They are introduced to the new SCONT Board, receive important information for the start of our meetings, and get supply lists for the upcoming year. Whether it is swimming or making and devouring ice cream sundaes, these kids really know how to have a good time!

Austin Trip
The MOST anticipated event of the entire SCONT year is our annual field trip to Texas' capitol city, Austin. Even though it is only a one day event, it is the most rigorous day of our session! Our members and advisors wake way before the sun rises to take the 4-5 hour drive to the Capitol. If it is an odd year, we attend Texas Home School Coalition's Capitol Days event, which is full of seminars and lobbying to Texas legislatures. If it is an even year, we explore the capitol city's various museums and also the Capitol Building. Austin is rich with Texas and USA history. It offers so much for our youth to learn and grow from. SCONT youth will agree that there is no better way to learn governmental processess, than to be right in the middle of where all the action takes place!
Closing Social
As each school year comes to a close, so does each SCONT session. To finish out the year, SCONT conducts a closing social for all its current members, with members from previous years invited. During the social, if SCONT members have accomplished their Statesmanship Certification, they receive their award certificates. They also receive service hour totals and individual service award certificates. SCONT advisors recognize any departing seniors, and present special awards that they feel were earned by the current members. After awards, it is nothing but a BIG party to celebrate the end of another great year with SCONT!
